Pink Rose
I was going to edit the rose to remove the imperfection at the bottom and then thought better of it. It’s a reminder that despite imperfections we are all still “beautiful”, just like this rose.

Purple water lily at Surat Water Lilies
My husband took myself and my daughter on a road trip “down the road” (while our son worked) to a couple of spots he had found while out working that he thought would interest me and my photography. We live in a rural town in Western Queensland so down the road can be an hour or more drive with nothing but grazing properties, dirt and some trees. Usually you see kangaroos lazing under trees, the occasional emu, maybe an echidna (if you’re lucky) and if you’re even luckier, you might even see a couple of wild camels (although there are some that are farmed in the area). Unfortunately, we didn’t see any of these…….NOT EVEN KANGAROOS, which is unusual!
This first spot, although at the time of day we were there we didn’t stop for photos, would be magical first thing in the morning or just as the sun was setting so is definitely a spot I will go back to with my camera.
The second spot, oh my……….water lilies all through the billabong and oh so pretty and my favourite colour – purple! So while my husband and daughter went for a walk, I got lost in my own world taking photos, looking for anything that stood out, searching for things that didn’t and the unusual - opened water lilies, half-opened water lilies, closed water lilies, different coloured dragon flies, unusual trees…………

Papuan Frogmouth, Billy Tea Safaris, Daintree River Queensland
While on a tour with Billy Tea Safaris (@billyteasafaris_), my friend and I had the opportunity to go on a boat ride along the Daintree River. The guide on the boat was AMAZING pointing out all these animals that we would have missed had it not been for him (honestly how he spotted them blew my mind and he wasn’t going at a slow speed either!!).
He spotted and pointed out these two Frogmouth (which I believe are called “Papuan Frogmouths”) who just blend in perfectly with their surroundings – blink and you would have missed them if he hadn’t have pointed them out.
Fun fact: The Papuan Frogmouth (Podargus papuensis) is actually a nocturnal bird that belongs to a family called Nightjars and is the largest Frogmouth in terms of length. People often confuse it with the Tawny Frogmouth, which is belongs to the same Podargus papuensis family. The Papuan Frogmouth has large red eyes and a bulbous bill, which make it easier to distinguish it from the other. They also mate for life. Male birds tend to be around 414g and have darker and more marbled feathers. The females tend to weigh a smaller 314g be more reddish-brown in hue. The Frogmouths are often mistaken for owls, however they lack the sharp beaks and talons of an owl. (Information from Cairns ZOOM > Wildlife Dome @cairnszoom).

What a find - it always pays to look up! You never know what you might find hiding in the branches!
